Annual Alumni Awards Gala and Hall of Honor Induction Ceremony
The Alcorn State University National Alumni Association (ASUNAA) established the Awards and Recognition Program to acknowledge the commitment and support of Alcorn State University’s Alumni. The ASUNAA applauds the outstanding dedication and accomplishments of those individuals and alumni groups whose service is exemplary. Alumni give of their time and their talent in so many ways, demonstrating that the best of Alcorn can be the best for Alcorn. In addition, Alcornite of the Year is the highest honor awarded to a prominent alumnus/alumna who has achieved distinction through exceptional contribution to our international, national, state, or community welfare.
The Annual Alumni Awards Gala and Hall of Honor Induction Ceremony was held Friday, May 12, 2023 at the Vicksburg Convention Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi. The event had a host of special guests from the University and from the community at large. In addition, we had greetings from the City of Vicksburg from George Flaggs Jr., who is the Mayor for the City of Vicksburg, he gave the welcome address for the Annual Alumni Awards Gala and Hall of Honor Induction ceremony. He expressed his passion for Vicksburg as well as forming an even stronger bond with Alcorn State University. He stated, “I am so passionate about Vicksburg,” said Flaggs. “Vicksburg is proud to have a strong relationship with Alcorn State University. I look forward to strengthening that relationship for years to come.”
The Annual Alumni Awards Gala and Hall of Honor Induction Ceremony Celebrated alumni from all walks of life who have added value to their communities. The celebration included musical selections from a Stefanie Luckett & Band from Jackson, Mississippi and a well celebrated saxophonist Mr. Johnny Johnson from Vicksburg, MS.
The celebration concluded with not only the induction of several Alumni into the Hall of Honors but Honoring the 2023 Alcornite of the Year Mrs. Marie Crosby- Moffett. She served as the Keynote Speaker and gave remarks as the 2023 Alcornite of the Year.
The Night was full of laughter, joy and excitement as we celebrated the achievements of our Alumni, stated the Committee Chair, Dr. J. Javarus Mathis, PhD.
